Market taxes and flips

Every page of AO Manager applies the same market taxes. The Market Flips page puts them at the center: buy low, hold, sell higher.

The two taxes

  • The setup fee is 2.5% of an order you place, buy or sell, whether it fills or not.
  • The sales cut is taken when an item sells on the market: 4% with Premium, 8% without.

How you trade decides which one you pay:

You… You pay
place a buy order price + 2.5% setup fee
buy instantly from a sell order the price only
sell with a sell order sales cut + 2.5% setup fee
sell instantly into a buy order sales cut only

A flip

A flip is one purchase of an item, sold in one or more sales. It moves from Buying (buy order placed) to Holding (items in hand) to Sold. Each sale records its own quantity, price and city, so partial sales are fine.

The numbers of a flip

  • Buy price: the unit price plus the setup fee for a buy order.
  • Break-even: the lowest sell order price that does not lose money, buy price ÷ (1 − sell tax).
  • Profit: what the sales brought after tax, minus the cost of the units sold.
  • Margin is profit ÷ revenue, Profit % is profit ÷ cost.
  • Open capital is the silver still tied up in units you hold.

A buy order cancelled before it filled only costs its setup fee.

Flips from the live capture

In the desktop app, the live capture can see your market purchases and create flips for you. Flip rules, per category, subcategory or item family, decide what happens to each purchase: follow it as a flip, ask you, or ignore it. A rule can also set how many days you plan to hold an item before the flip shows as overdue.
