Laborer journals: what a full journal is worth

Laborers take a full journal and bring back resources, fish or silver the next day. The Laborers page tells you whether buying full journals and handing them in pays off.

The laborer types

  • Crafting laborers (Blacksmith, Fletcher, Imbuer, Tinker) return refined resources.
  • Gathering laborers (Prospector, Lumberjack, Stonecutter, Cropper, Gamekeeper, Fisherman) return raw resources or fish.
  • The Mercenary returns silver.

Every laborer also hands the journal back empty, ready to refill or sell.

Happiness

What a journal returns depends on the laborer's happiness, from 50% to 150% of the base yield. Set it in the page settings: the expected returns of every row scale with it.

Profit of a row

For each full journal the app takes the expected returns of its loot table, prices every item at its market price minus the market tax, adds the silver (not taxed) and subtracts what the full journal costs:

profit = Σ units × price × (1 − tax) + silver − journal price

Items without a price count as zero and the row is flagged, so an incomplete total never looks better than it is.

Max price

The Max price column is the most a full journal can cost for the run to break even: what its returns fetch, net of tax. If the market sells full journals below it, the run makes money.

Plan the hand-in

Tick Use on the rows you run. The Result tab lists the journals to buy, the expected returns and the totals — journal cost, revenue, silver, market tax and profit. Profit / kg helps when you must carry the returns to another city, and the daily sales column warns you when you plan more journals than the market trades.
